Grand Manan is an island at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy. I had been to Grand Manan once before this 2010 visit, way back about 1960. Back then each of the villages had one or two small grocery stores. There were several fish processing plants and the appropriate fishing fleet.. By 2010 the population had declined, fish processing departed, fewer boats in the fishing fleet. We found it a gentle, hospitable place still. Our photography emphasized the old and sometimes abandoned herring smokehouses, but there is much that is modern as well.
In September of 2009 we made our second visit to les Iles-de-la-madeleine.
We had all kinds of weather. Wind, rain, sunshine, overcast ... you name it, we had it, and that was great. There were lots of photographic opportunities. What you see here is just a sampling of our 7 day feast. Don't worry about how you get here, just come ... and enjoy wonderful hospitality!
