Day 4 in Death Valley included a trip to the 'Wildrose area and on to the Charcoal Kilns. The kilns, 9 or 10 of 'em were built to make charcoal from local wood, charcoal used in the smelting process at several local mining operations. They were at almost 4,000 ft ... and that meant the mountains were forested with Juniper ...the wood for charcoal..
Later in the day we went to Golden Canyon and found it impassable for June. A 2005 flood tore out much of the paved walk and resultant mess has not been rectified.
